Harbin (in simplified Chinese 哈爾濱) is the capital of Heilongjiang Province in China, which is also a sub-provincial city located in the center of north-eastern part of Asia. It is also an important hub for connection between Europe and Asia. Harbin is located in the northern part of Northeast China Plain, the southern part of Heilongjiang Province. It is the political, economic, cultural, technological and transportation center of Heilongjiang Province.

Harbin’s area is the second largest among the sub-provincial level cities. It is having the temperate climate of the continental monsoon system, so there would be long cold winter, short cool summer, which gives this city nicknames like the “Bards”, “summer resort”, etc. Every year, many people would try to visit this city during winter to play the ice, and during summer to escape from the very hot weather in their home countries or home provinces. In China, Harbin is one of the earliest cities being approved to be tourist cities. The building styles of Harbin’s constructions are very special, which is a kind of fusion of Chinese as well as Russian. Therefore, Harbin is often known as the “Oriental Moscow.”

Harbin is a city with rapid development in recent decade which focuses on the equipment and food industries. The city’s GDP in 2008 amounted to 286.82 billion yuan, which has an 13.2 percent increase over the same period of time in the previous year. Also, it has successively achieved a double digit percentage growth in GDP for 15 years.
Every year, there would be conventions being held in Harbin to act as a platform for Chinese and European, especially Russian, traders to communicate and trade. These conventions could also successfully introduce Harbin to people so that they would consider investing in Harbin. Of course, some other industries like hotels would also be benefited from the conventions because businessmen would need accommodations.

In the future, Harbin is expected to be more well-known as it grows faster and faster. There would be a lot of interesting places being developed in this city to attract tourists.
